Tension

We continue to sit in a time of tension.

The banality of everyday life is in constant tension with the reality of violence and suffering.

We are all connected to one another. Whether it is by the bonds of friendship, the connections of kinship, the proximity of community, or the interdependence of economy, we are all connected.

The ease and pervasiveness of our global connections leads us to sit in deep tension.

Last week I relied on the words of the PC(USA) to help me express my feelings about the reality that our nation is again at war. Time has not helped me gather the right words to say. The amount of time staring at a blank screen, trying to figure out what to write, can attest to that fact.

I still don’t have the words I’m looking for. When I write these posts, I don’t try to go on longer than necessary, but I do try to make sure that I have some meat in what I write. Today I won’t do that. Instead, today I will share the words that keep butting up against each other. These are the words that betray the existential tension of living in a connected world.

I am starting to fall behind in getting my laundry done.

We blew up a school and killed 175 people, mostly children.

Please pray for peace.

Rev. Jeff Fox-Kline
