Kelly, our Communications Manager, does a lot of things that occur behind the scenes. One of those things is that she prepares “meta-data” for our website. If you don’t know what meta-data is, here is a helpful description from the Semrush Blog, “A meta description tag is an HTML element that provides a short summary of a webpage. It can appear as a snippet below the page’s URL and title in Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs).” I’m assuming you all understood that. I sure didn’t. Either way, Kelly shared the meta-data from the most recent blog post and it is so much better than anything I’ve ever written: "Explore the relatable humanity of the disciples at Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, where even well-meaning bumblers are embraced and celebrated.”
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, where even well-meaning bumblers are embraced and celebrated.
That’s perfect. If I were to build a church from the ground up, that might be the mission statement I would choose. But why limit myself?
And now, without further ado, some more mission statements for my hypothetical church (Which I’m still referring to as Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church):
Don’t worry about being good, I’ve definitely done worse.
If you come here, you’re likely in the top 60%...
We hope you can make it; we’re trying really hard.
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church: Not half bad!
Hey dummy! Come to our church!
Are we the best church? No. Are we a great church? I guess.
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church: Come on over and pretend you know what you’re doing.
Someone’s coming! Quick! Pretend you’re doing something!
Ok, everyone, I know I’ve said this before, but let’s get it right this time.
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church: We try hard! Does that still count?
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church: I’m not going to say that we’re screwups, but I won’t not say that either.
Come to our church. Why, you ask? I don’t know, but I like you.
Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church: Look, it’s not like you’re perfect either.
Who knows? You might actually learn something.
Alright folks, I think that’s a good start for today. This might be what churches would say if we were willing to be honest. I hope you like this blog post. I really was trying to put out something interesting, but even if I failed at that, I hope you’ll embrace my well-meaning bumbling.
Peace,
Rev. Jeff Fox-Kline
