A Tribute To My Gordon

Last Sunday at the blessing of the animals service, I talked about Gordon. If you don’t know, Gordon is my cat. I wanted to think of something that I could share with the congregation that would be appropriate to the setting, and I figured that the way Gordon treats me is fair game. My point was that a cat’s relationship with their human is similar to how humans relate to God. That was a mistake, as we all know that cats have nothing in common with human beings and are much more akin to an all-powerful deity.

By comparing Gordon to a human being, I was perhaps a little hard on him. I have to imagine that for a cat, this is the absolute lowest form of insult that can be fathomed. And while he is illiterate, I feel that I should publicly apologize to him.

Ahem.

Gordon, I am sorry that I compared you to a human. As you know, I am a human, and I know how you feel about me. You are so much better than a human being, as we all know. Please understand that my comparing you to a human being was really just another example of why you’re so much superior to me.

All my love and subservience,

Jeff

As a way of paying penance, I would like to share a couple of recent images of Gordon that I’m sure he’d want out there in public. Our scripture says that we are not to worship images or idols, but I don’t think cats much care about what the Bible says.
